Wellness & Lifestyle Services: Massage Therapy

About Our Massage Therapy

Massage therapy is as old as touch itself and has been a wellness practice since humans first understood that our ability to comfort each other is literally in the palm of our hands. Today's massage therapy uses evidence-informed practices and education to work with the client in the context of their entire plan of care.

Massage Therapy Services Available

Traditional Therapeutic Massage:

When you come in for your therapeutic massage, expect to have a conversation about what your goal is for the massage, and about how you move your body every day. Your session can address your whole body or focus on specific areas of chronic pain or tension. Your massage therapist works with you, not on you. Every massage is a partnership, where the work is guided and directed by your needs.

Oncology Massage:

Oncology massage is the adaptation of massage techniques to address specific challenges of cancer treatment, and long-term changes resulting from past treatment. The oncology massage appointment will include a conversation about your health history, and about your particular challenges -- from cancer, from treatment, or beyond. Based on the conversation, the instructor will provide a safe, supportive session that will help your body manage the side effects of treatment. Massage has been shown to be effective in addressing anxiety, fatigue, nausea, and pain in particular.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD):

MLD is a gentle massage technique that works with the lymphatic system to move waste out of the body. In an MLD session, the skin is moved in a specific direction and a specific order which has been proven to encourage lymphatic flow.  MLD is often used after cancer treatment to prevent or as part of treatment for lymphedema, but it has many benefits for everyone.  For example, MLD can help clear chronic sinus congestion, reduce post-workout or post-surgical swelling, reduce injury-related swelling and bruising, and possibly boost immune system function.  An MLD session is deeply relaxing, and many clients report an increased feeling of well-being after a session. MLD can be designed as a full session, or this modality can be incorporated into your therapeutic massage.
