Qi is the essential energy that animates all life. It flows through the body in pathways called Meridians that influence every aspect of health, even thoughts and emotions. Each of the 12 meridians are named for the organ system that they influence and pass through. The meridian’s functions will often emulate the organ’s physiological functions, but they also perform additional functions unique to TCM. ![]() Acupuncture points are located on meridians and, when stimulated, will elicit specific actions to influence Qi. When Qi is abundant and free flowing, a balance of health and wellness is experienced. However, when various types of stressors overwhelm the body, Qi can become imbalanced in one or more of the following ways:
In many cases, our Qi is equipped enough to bounce back on its own. However, in chronic/severe cases a helping hand is needed, and that’s where acupuncture comes in! Acupuncture works by identifying where and how Qi has become imbalanced and then uses specific acupuncture points to rebalance and restore health.
